The copy is probably a lithographic engraving and is after an oil painting of Prince Alfred by Franz Xaver Winterhalter. Prince Alfred was Queen Victoria’s second son. The painting dates from 1846 when Alfred was two years old and is held by the Royal Collection Trust (inventory number RCIN 405037). The engraving and Talbot’s photograph of it must have been made some time after.
